All of our breeding Newfoundlands have been screened for and passed testing for hip and elbow dysplasia, eye problems, heart problems, and thyroid disease. Annisquam Light Newfoundlands is a natural rearing breeder which means that we feed our Newfoundlands a raw diet, and do not use any chemicals including topical flea and tick pesticides or vaccines (except what is required by law) on our newfies.
We treat our newfs using homeopathy when necessary and prefer to avoid any chemical exposure or conventional medications. We have found through our many years of raising and living with Newfoundlands that medications, chemicals and vaccines have caused more problems than they have prevented. With our newfies and their future offspring's best interests in mind, we do everything in our power to raise healthy, well-adjusted and happy Newfoundlands.
We pride ourselves on raising healthy Newfoundlands in mind and body and to that end, we have an extensive puppy raising protocol that we follow when we are rearing a litter. Our newfies are raised as though they are going to become future service dogs regardless if they are going to be working dogs or family companions. We believe that a carefully planned out socialization and early training program is what makes our Newfoundlands superior companions. Many hours of care, training and love go into raising a Newfoundland litter and for this reason, we are extremely fussy about the homes our puppies go to.
Our future puppy buyers must agree to raise their Newfoundland puppy using the very best and latest information available regarding positive training methods (clicker training is preferred), diet (we prefer and recommend a raw prey model diet), and forward thinking medical care (homeopathy, minimal to no vaccines and no pesticide applications of flea and tick medication). We are happy to educate and assist you in finding resources in each of these areas so that you can continue the work we have done and enjoy your companion for many years to come. We have found that paying attention to these details will give your Newfoundland the best chance for a long and healthy life.
